Privacy Policy

Effective 7 October 2026

The short version
  • We store only what you save: your resumes, job descriptions, tracked applications and settings.
  • Your resume and the job description are sent straight from your browser to the AI provider you choose (Google Gemini or Anthropic Claude), using your own API key. They do not pass through our servers.
  • No ads, no analytics trackers, and we never sell your data. We only count anonymous daily totals, like how many resumes were tailored.
  • You can download or permanently delete all your data at any time from Settings.

1. Who we are

Tailrd, formerly called Resume Tailor (“the app”, “we”, “us”), is a web app at tailrd.web.app that helps you adapt your resume to a job description. It is built and run by its creator, an individual based in India, who is the data fiduciary for the personal data described here under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).

2. What we collect

DataWhere it comes fromWhy
Name, email address, profile photo and a unique account IDYour Google account, when you sign inTo create your account and show who is signed in
Resume text, including your default resume, and a copy of your Word file if you save one as your defaultWhat you paste or uploadTo tailor it, keep your own format, and fill it in for you next time
Job descriptions, company and role namesWhat you pasteTo check your fit and tailor your resume
Tailored resumes, cover letters, fit scores, keywords and your answers to gap questionsCreated when you use the appTo show your history and progress
Application tracker entries and their statusWhat you addTo track your job search
AI provider choice and API keyWhat you enter in SettingsTo call the AI provider on your behalf (see section 3)
Light, dark or automatic appearanceYour choice in SettingsTo keep the app looking the way you like
The date you last used the appRecorded when you open the appTo count active users once per day (see “Usage counts” below)
Feedback you send, and your email address only if you tick the box to be contactedThe Feedback formTo fix problems and decide what to build next

Uploaded files. When you upload a PDF or Word file, it is read and edited inside your browser. We keep the extracted text only when you save it. If you save a Word file as your default resume, we also keep a copy of that file in your account so "Keep my format" works next time. Removing your default resume deletes it.

Usage counts. To see whether Tailrd is useful, the app adds 1 to a daily total when someone signs up, opens the app, adds a working AI key, checks their fit, tailors a resume, writes a cover letter, downloads a file, imports a job from the extension or sends feedback. If you arrived through one of our own links, such as an Instagram ad, sign-ups, added keys and tailored resumes are also counted under that link, so we can tell whether it was worth it. These totals are stored per day with no account ID, name, email or content attached, and they can’t be linked back to you.

On your device. The app stores your appearance choice and a few layout preferences in your browser’s local storage so the page looks right before you sign in. If you came from one of our links, it also remembers which one for 14 days. That stays on your device. Firebase Authentication also keeps you signed in using browser storage. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not run third-party analytics.

Technical logs. Our hosting and database provider, Google Firebase, may automatically record technical data such as IP address, browser type and request times to run and protect its service.

Sensitive information. Please don’t put information in your resume that you wouldn’t share with an employer, such as government ID numbers, bank details or health information. The app doesn’t need it.

3. AI providers and your API key

Tailrd uses a “bring your own key” model. You create an API key with an AI provider and add it in Settings.

  • What is sent. When you check your fit, answer gap questions, tailor a resume or write a cover letter, your browser sends your resume text, the job description, your gap answers and any cover letter details you add directly to the provider you chose: Google’s Gemini API or Anthropic’s Claude API. These requests do not go through any server we run.
  • The provider’s terms apply. The provider handles that content under its own terms and privacy policy, in an agreement between you and them. For example, under the Gemini API terms, content sent through free (unpaid) Gemini API usage may be used by Google to improve its products and may be read by human reviewers. Paid Gemini API usage and the Anthropic API are handled under different rules. Read the Gemini API terms or Anthropic’s privacy policy before you use them.
  • How your key is stored. Your key is saved in your private account record in Google Cloud Firestore. It is encrypted at rest by Google Cloud, and our database rules only let your own signed-in account read it. We never use your key for anything except the requests you start in the app.
  • Costs and limits. Any usage charges, quotas or rate limits on your key are between you and the provider.
  • Removing it. You can remove your key in Settings at any time. For extra safety you can also revoke it in your provider’s dashboard.

Browser extension

The Tailrd browser extension for Chrome and Edge only reads a web page when you click it, use its keyboard shortcut, or right-click selected text and choose Tailor my resume to this job. It then reads the job title, company and job description from that one page, plus any text you selected, and opens Tailrd in a new tab with those details filled in. The job details are passed inside your browser, held only until Tailrd picks them up, and are not sent to any server we run. The extension doesn't track your browsing, doesn't read other pages or tabs, and doesn't collect your resume, passwords or personal information. It only runs a small script on Tailrd's own pages so it can hand the job over.

4. How we use your data

We use your data only to run the app for you: to sign you in, tailor and score your resumes, save your history and tracker, keep your settings, read the feedback you send, and count anonymous daily usage totals. We don’t use your data for advertising, sell it, or use it to train AI models. We process it on the basis of the consent you give when you sign in and use the app. You can withdraw that consent at any time by deleting your account.

5. Who we share it with

  • Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Hosting) stores and serves the app and your data on our behalf.
  • The AI provider you choose receives the content described in section 3, when you ask it to.
  • Buy Me a Coffee. If you choose to tip, you do it on Buy Me a Coffee’s website under its own privacy policy. The app doesn’t send them any of your data, and we never see your card or payment details.
  • Legal requirements. We may disclose data if Indian law or a valid legal order requires it.

We don’t share your data with anyone else.

6. Where it’s stored and how it’s protected

Your data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure, which may be located outside India. Data travels over HTTPS, is encrypted at rest by Google, and is protected by database rules that let each account read and change only its own records. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal data, we will inform you and the Data Protection Board of India as the DPDP Act requires.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your data until you delete it or delete your account. Items you delete in the app are removed right away. When you use Delete my account and data in Settings, your resumes, applications, settings, API key and sign-in account are removed from the live database immediately. Feedback you sent is kept until it has been dealt with, then deleted; email us to have it removed sooner. Anonymous daily totals contain nothing about you and are kept. Copies in Google’s short-term backups and logs expire under Google’s own schedules.

8. Your rights

Under the DPDP Act (and similar laws such as the GDPR, if they apply to you) you can:

  • Access your data. Use Download my data in Settings to get a copy in JSON format.
  • Correct it. Edit or replace anything you’ve saved in the app.
  • Erase it. Delete individual items, or use Delete my account and data in Settings.
  • Withdraw consent, by deleting your account.
  • Nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if you die or become unable to, by emailing us.
  • Raise a grievance with us, and if you’re not satisfied with our response, complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

For anything you can’t do in the app, email us. We aim to respond within 30 days.

9. Children

Tailrd is for people aged 18 and over. We don’t knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the effective date above. For significant changes, we’ll also show a notice in the app before they take effect.

11. Contact and grievances

Email the creator of Tailrd at gettailrd@gmail.com. Please include the email address you sign in with so we can find your account.
